Oculus Rift Racing is a Innovative Racing PC game that can be controlled with an Xbox 360 controller or Wii Mote steering wheel . There is also an option to connect the Oculus Rift such that the player feels more immersed.
The goal of Oculus Rift Racing is to finish three laps as fast as possible. The performance is saved and can than be compared to performance of others. The most important thing we wanted to achieve with this game is to have a more immersed feeling and make the game more "real".
For one of the courses (Multimodal Interaction) in my master Kevin Van Nieuwenhuizen and I had to create game that included multiple advanced interaction technologies.
We came up with this game and compare immersion and the performance in terms of accuracy (not hitting guardrail) and speed (finishing as fast as possible).
The result is as follows:
- The Oculus Rift does lead to more immersion to the player whereas the Wii Mote steering wheel does not.
- When comparing the traditional technologies(monitor and Xbox 360 controller) to the new technologies (Oculus Rift and Wii Mote steering wheel)
the traditional technologies are only better in terms of speed but not in terms of accuracy.
