Sketchman is a 2D Platform Horror PC game. The player can control the character either by keyboard or by voice commands, making this game ideal for handicapped players. The player will move through a dark world where it will encounter obstacles and enemies.
Sketchman has been living in Sketch-world his whole life. He is sick of being sketched without color, thus decides to go on an adventure to Color-world. However, to get to Color-world he has to get passed the dark en dangerous Cemetery Woods. Sketchman is brave enough to take this journey. Will he reach Color-world?
The goal of the game is to get to the end of each level. The score of the player is based on the time it takes to get to the finish. At the end of each level there is a highscore list so that the player can compare his score against others. Throughout the level there are collectibles that will deduct some seconds from the stopwatch. There are multiple obstacles and enemies that will prevent the player from advancing through the level. To make the game a little bit easier there are checkpoints included in the game. The companion of the player, a ghost, will float behind the player at all time. The player can use it to kill the enemies. The amount of hit points the player has left are visualised through the expression of the companion.
In the second year of the bachelor degree Tigran Gasparian, Kevin Van Nieuwenhuizen and I had to think of an application that might come in handy for handicapped people.
We decided to make a game that can be controlled by voice. We think that handicapped people (in this case people who cannot use their hands) should have the opportunity to enjoy games as well.
The result is Sketchman.
