As a part-time job when attending university, I development a marketing research tool prototype for MetrixLab. We created a virtual supermarket using the Oculus Rift for displaying the virtual world and a Xbox360 controller to move around.
My part involved programming, leading the team and talking to MetrixLab and find out what they wanted to be implemented.
The goal of this project was to have a virtual 3D store using the Oculus Rift for displaying the virtual world and a Xbox360 controller to move around. While walking around, data was stored and could later be used for analyzing the customers behaviour and optimize the layout of the store to get more profit.
One day MetrixLab approached me with an idea for a virtual reality store. Because they did not have experience with software development, they asked me if I could come up with a concept and list of requirements. Eventually they asked me to develop a prototype for this concept. I asked two friends (Tigran Gasparian and Kevin Van Nieuwenhuizen) to help me implement the prototype. Over the summer of 2013 we created this prototype and researched user experience aspects.
